Synopsis : Centuries ago, sibling rivalry tore Aramith apart. As punishment, the losers were stripped of their immortal birthright and banished to Earth. There, they wasted away from old age and diseases. However, there is hope…
If a Shaw child, born on the 12th day of the 12th month offers her soul in a public sacrifice, then the exiles will be forgiven and welcomed home to Aramith.
Aubrey Shaw is that child, but dying for the exiles is not on her to-do list. Using her gift as a Jumper, Aubrey leaps between bodies to escape relentless shape-shifting hunters. Only, shedding her skin is not enough. Not when Joshua, her best-friend-turned-hunter, is hell-bent on dragging her to the altar.
Will Aubrey’s love for Joshua change his mind?
Or, will she have to trust the scarred stranger who shows up out of the blue cloaked in lies and secrets? Doing so means giving up on Joshua. But betting on Joshua’s love could do more than break her heart.
It could kill her.
Review : Kerr-Ann sent me her book in exchange of an honest review, so I will try to be as honest as possible about my reading. But first, I want to thank Kerr-Ann once again for giving me this opportunity to discover her world and her writing. It was a great pleasure !
I have to say that when I began my reading, I was a little bit lost because there were many characters and we didn’t really know at first who they were and how they were related. I had difficulties to go deep into the story but, as an avid reader, I have learnt that we have to try to go further in our reading to give a chance to the story to be better. This is what I did and I really don’t regret it ! I took a while to try to understand what Aramith was and who the main characters were and how they were connected. The more I went deep into the story, the more I liked the characters and their background. Actually, the plot has a great structure and the characters are deep ones. Even if they aren’t humans like us, we can identify ourselves to Aubrey and Coy for instance. Their relationship is real, strong and I always wanted to know more about their future. I totally fell in love with Coy, because of his moral values and of his nature. I think he is my favorite character of the novel, even if I really liked Aubrey and Tessa too. Well, this is complicated about Tessa. Once I liked her, then I really disliked her, for not saying I hated her, and then again, I re-liked her. I can’t really explain why, but I had some difficulties to be sure about her loyalty to Aubrey, but I was wrong. She is a true friend like everybody would love to have. I think this is why I loved this book so much. We go through different feelings during our reading and at the same time, we want to know how it is going to end but we don’t want it to end. Personally, I love when a book acts on me like that because that means that the author did a really good job and I’m convinced that Kerr-Ann did a really job in writing this novel. Now, I can’t wait to discover The Reluctant Huntress and to know more about Morgan because I’m sure she is a deep character too and we have lots of things to learn about her.
