Review : Wow! This book is such a beauty! I already loved the story when I watched the movie last June, but this is as beautiful when it is written. Jojo Moyes has a gift for writing and knows how to manage suspense, building at the same time a cute but strong love story. What I love the most is that each character is special and has a role to play in the story. This is something good to underline, in my opinion, because there are often lots of characters in novels and we don’t really know what they give to the story. Here, they all are important and not too numerous, so we can identify them easily and follow them in their adventures. They all are lovable in their way and I didn’t want to leave them in finishing my reading. I definitely hope I’ll find some of them in After You!
I also appreciated the fact that a strong topic is the main part of the story. We don’t talk enough about dying with dignity and even if it is hard for the concerned ones to take this decision, I think we all should have the choice and possibility to do this. This is my opinion and I completely understand that this topic can be a taboo, but this is important to be aware of these possibilities and this reality. I cried a lot before the the movie and I was moved by the book, so I am sure it wouldn’t be easy for me if I had to face it for a member of my family, but I understand that life isn’t simple for everyone and that euthanasia is a way among others to feel finally free.
A beautiful and strong story that I would recommend to everyone, just to be more understanding with others and because it warmed my heart so much!

Ce roman m’a véritablement fait pleurer… Une écriture qui emballe, des personnes qui nous paraissent si réels que l’on ne peut que s’attacher…
En plus, j’ai lu ce livre alors même que je me trouvais à Londres, et je me souviens avoir vu énormément d’affiches en gare au sujet de Jojo Moyes. Et j’ai compris pourquoi.
Pourtant, je ne partais pas conquise, les romans à tendance mélos me font davantage froncer les sourcils que pleurer. Ce que je recherche, dans mes lectures, en général, c’est une forme de véracité, une recherche de l’auteur sur son sujet, une maîtrise ! Et Jojo Moyes est parvenue à me toucher par cette histoire, on ressent véritablement que le sujet a été fouillé, et que le livre a été dur à écrire.
Mais, il y a toujours un mais, je vois que 2 tomes suivent cette histoire. A trop tirer sur la corde… Je ne sais pas si je dois me lancer dans cette suite, qui pour moi n’a aucun lieu d’être, si ce n’est d’engranger du profit.

Entièrement d’accord avec toi, ce roman est une véritable perle ! J’avais peur de me lancer dans ‘After You’, en partie à cause des avis mitigés, mais j’ai été emportée. J’ai tout simplement adoré connaître la suite de l’histoire et voir si mon imagination était sur la bonne voie. Je n’ai pas du tout été déçue et je prévois de lire ‘Still Me’ (j’ai hâte d’ailleurs !) ^^

Le deuxième tome se focalise sur la vie « après » n’est-ce pas ? Je crains de tomber dans le cliché redondant des parallèles constants entre la vie de Lou avant et après la perte de son amour… Je crains vraiment ce sentiment pesant, qui je pense ne sera pas bien mené car tiré sur la corde…
Mais après, on parle de Jojo Moyes 🙂

Oui, c’est après ‘Me Before You’ et honnêtement, j’avais peur aussi que ce soit écrit pour nous faire pleurer mais en fait non. Il y a une nouvelle intrigue qui fait vraiment évoluer le personnage de Lou 🙂

Mais y a-t-il un nouvel amour ? Je trouverais un nouveau personnage masculin « de trop » au vu du passif de Lou… Non pas qu’elle doive se complaire dans le deuil, mais… Je ne sais pas, je tergiverse 🙂

Même pas un petit indice ? Je pense que mon achat dépendra grandement du tournant pris par la vie de Lou.

L’ensemble de l’histoire ne tourne pas autour de sa vie sentimentale. L’intrigue est sur un autre sujet 🙂
